As we celebrate, December 3, the International Day of People with Disability, we would like to take this time to thank one of our greatest supporters and lifetime patron, the Hon Greg Hunt, who for many, many years has ensured our disability service could continue operating on the Mornington Peninsula.
As our Federal Member for Flinders, Greg has always shown us that he really cares about his electorate and the people in it. Our Executive Director, Ms Lauren Wicks, recalls that this was evident from the first time she met him, his kindness and his determination to help Abacus succeed was clear right from his very first visit to the Mornington centre the year we opened in 2008.
Following his recent announcement to retire from politics, we were very honoured to be mentioned in his parliamentary speech yesterday, https://youtu.be/qYHpeNZK348?t=350
We are also pleased to hear that Greg will now have more time at home with his family and we will be forever grateful for his tireless efforts to always go the extra mile, from connecting us with community partners to his 500 kilometre fundraising walks for autism in 2011, 2015 and 2018.
We wish Greg, Paula, Poppy and James all the best and look forward to inviting them to join us at our community events in 2022.
