Professional Development

Abacus Learning Centre provides Professional Development for Educators and Service Providers who work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The training is based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and targets those wanting to learn more about working effectively, efficiently and inclusively with their ASD students.

Each Professional Development is tailored to the needs of the participating organisation. Abacus has provided Professional Development to staff of Child Care Centres, Pre-schools, Primary, Secondary and Special Development schools.

While the course is individualised to the identified needs of the participants, there are four elements addressed.

These are:

  • What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
  • How to teach children with ASD.
  • What to teach children with ASD.
  • How to assess and manage challenging behaviours.

Abacus is unique in being able to provide direct observation of teaching strategies. Participants will observe Abacus students during one-on-one therapy and group sessions, allowing the opportunity for increased learning that comes from seeing theory put into practise.

Abacus can accommodate group bookings for a minimum of eight staff. Please contact Nina Sutton, Executive Manager, directly for further discussion and to initiate a quote for the training day.
